MORE NEW TO SEE AND DO IN TENNESSEE
(As referenced from 2006 Almanac)

Mast General Store will open its first Tennessee branch in August. Located in a historic building in downtown Knoxville, the store will feature the same merchandise as its branches in other locations. “Old-time” goods for the hearth and home, outdoor clothing and gear plus more than 500 kinds of candy will be sold in the former 1898 McNulty Grocery and Dry Goods Co. building. Wooden floors and tin ceilings will lend an early 1900s atmosphere to the store. Mast’s other locations are in Valle Crucis, Boone, Asheville, Hendersonville and Waynesville, N.C. and in Greenville, S.C. www.mastgeneralstore.com.

Visitors can experience a new ride in 2006 at the Pigeon Forge’s Dollywood theme park said to be the only one of its kind in North America. The new Timber Tower is a thrill ride that spins and falls from a height of five stories. Also on tap for 2006 is Dreamland Drive-In, a show celebrating the music of the’50s and ’60s. Christmas will bring a new holiday musical production, “Babes in Toyland,” the largest in the park’s history. Dollywood’s Splash Country will offer a new set of extreme drop slides built specifically for thrill seekers. 865/428-9488; www.dollywood.com.

Tate and Lyle Performing Arts Center in Loudon, a new amphitheater with seating for 7,500, will present open-air concerts at Loudon Municipal Park. 865/458-7525.
